چکیده
Abstract Objectives Diabetic retinopathy (DRP) is one of the most common microvascular complications diabetes. The pigment epithelium-derived factor (PEDF) a protein that potent angiogenesis inhibitors. effect blood PEDF concentration on DRP formation remains unclear. present study aimed to determine whether plasma effective appearance DRP. Methods consisted 62 patients with diabetes mellitus and 20 healthy participants. patient group included 28 non-proliferative DRP, 13 proliferative 21 diabetic without levels in serum samples were detected through ELISA method. body mass index participants was calculated. Results Serum (1.533 ± 0.233 μg/mL) found be lower (2.163 0.343 than (p=0.002). similar non-DRP groups (p=0.337). level decreased along progression (p=0.001). Conclusions decreases increase grade. Decreased may important predict . Agents containing used intraocularly/systemically for therapeutic purposes prevent vascular near future.

Relationship between pigment epithelium-derived factor (PEDF) and renal function in patients with diabetic retinopathy
PURPOSE Diabetic retinopathy and nephropathy are microvascular complications in patients with diabetes that are considered to be related. Pigment epithelium-derived factor (PEDF), a strong inhibitor of angiogenesis, is significantly elevated in the blood of diabetic patients, especially those with proliferative diabetic retinopathy (PDR). The level of PEDF in the blood, on the other hand, is re...

Background: Anemia may be considered to be an independent risk factor for the development of diabetic retinopathy (DR) in patients with renal failure. The purpose of this study was to investigate the association between blood hemoglobin level and retinopathy in diabetic patients with normal renal function tests. Methods: From 2009 to 2011, 1100 diabetic patients underwent retinal examination. Am...
متن کاملLeukostasis and pigment epithelium-derived factor in rat models of diabetic retinopathy
PURPOSE Spontaneously diabetic Torii (SDT) rats, an animal model of type 2 diabetes, have a low incidence of neovascular formation and an absence of non-perfused areas in their retinas at the proliferative stage that presents tractional retinal detachment with fibrous proliferation. The aim of this study was to determine whether leukostasis is present in the retina, to evaluate the levels of pi...
متن کاملPotential therapeutic effects of pigment epithelium-derived factor for treatment of diabetic retinopathy.
Diabetic retinopathy (DR), a major micro-vascular complication of diabetes, has emerged as a leading cause of visual impairment and blindness among working adults in the worldwide. The pathobiology of DR involves multiple molecular pathways and is characterized chronic neurovascular degeneration. Current approaches to prevent or to treat DR are still far from satisfactory. Therefore, it is impo...

Pigment epithelium-derived factor (PEDF) is a glycoprotein that belongs to the family of non-inhibitory serpins. The broad spectrum of PEDF biological activity is evident when considering its effects in promoting cell survival and proliferation, as well as its antiangiogenic, antitumor, and anti-metastatic properties. Although the structural domains of the PEDF gene that mediate such diverse ef...
